The Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles offers a variety of educational presentations about epilepsy for different audiences. The basic purpose is to educate about seizure recognition and seizure first aid and increase understanding about epilepsy. Seizure Recognition and First Aid Trainings

 

The Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles provides basic epilepsy trainings on seizure recognition and on seizure first aid in various community settings for different audiences, including:
 

•  School Personnel (Teachers, Nurses, Administrators, and Support Staff)**
•  Law Enforcement Personnel
•  First Responders
•  Service Providers
•  Community Agencies
•  Companies/Corporations
•  Students
•  Individuals, Friends and Family Members

 

Individuals who complete this training will:
 

•  Be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of epilepsy as a medical condition
•  Be able to Identify and learn about different types of seizures
•   Know what to do and what not to do when someone is having a seizure
•  Evidence accurate information on epilepsy
•  Be able to share epilepsy with others

 

**In school settings specifically, these trainings will also help equip attendees with information, strategies and resources that will enable him/her to better manage the student with seizures by supporting positive treatment outcomes, maximizing educational and developmental opportunities, and ensuring a safe and supportive environment. 

 

Requesting a Presentation

 

Schools, individuals, employers and agency directors are welcome to call and request a training. We urge the organizers to optimize the presenter’s time by scheduling a few presentations on the same day or to invite all your employees and/or personnel from a wider region together for the presentation. 
 

The Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles requests a donation/fee for each presentation, depending upon the distance and the number of presentations organized in the same location. The fee helps to cover the cost of transportation and staff time, and can be processed as a fee or as a donation. Limited scholarships for trainings are available.

Special Topic Presentations

 

The Epilepsy Foundation coordinates in-depth, comprehensive presentations on special topics related to epilepsy for professional audiences through its Speakers Bureau, which consists of a group of epilepsy specialists, mental health professionals, neurologists, and epilepsy professionals that are available for speaking engagements.

Professional associations, conference organizers, schools, and employers are welcome to call and request, discuss or inquire about a special topic presentation related to epilepsy. Scheduling depends on availability of Speakers Bureau members.
