Objective: Combat a regional shortage of pediatric epilepsy specialists and improve access to specialty care by funding the training and work of more pediatric neurology/epilepsy specialists.
To help accomplish this objective, the Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles has supported the training and work of the only pediatric neurologist at County/USC/Keck School of Medicine, and the training of a pediatric neurologist at the UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital. Currently, more grants are underway to support the training and work of more epilepsy specialists at County/USC Medical Center, UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital and Children's Hospital Los Angeles.
The Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles is also spearheading a grassroots advocacy effort to combat the lack of specialists by meeting with medical students in California and encouraging them to consider pursuing pediatric neurology and particularly epilepsy as a specialty.
